After many years searching I finally found a book of art prints from my hero Masao Yamamoto. He deliberately shoots on 35 mm film to create miniature prints that fit in the palm of your hand—making each image feel like a personal talisman. He believes that if you can hold a photo, you can hold a memory—with small scale enhancing emotional intimacy.
He tones them (typically with tea or coffee), paints, stains, and inks them—blurring the line between photography and painting.
He has always been my favorite photographer. I love his quotes about his work like “I hope that the faint waves that my work emits, grow into quiet, yet eloquent messages that will be reaching you.”
