Pistol City was the hard edged nickname given to the mining camp Bulan, a Perry County coal camp along Trace Fork, roughly four miles northeast of Hazard.
By the 1920s, Bulan had a rough reputation. Enough men reportedly carried guns around the settlement that people began calling it Pistol City.
