Majestic sits deep in Pike County along the Tug Fork, a coal town built around the Majestic Collieries Company.

One of Majestic's wildest stories happened in 1925, when Pike County deputy sheriff Jesse Ferrell came looking for Boone England, a man the Big Sandy News described as a desperado and bootlegger. England was reportedly carrying 20 gallons of moonshine into Majestic to sell when Ferrell and several men moved in to arrest him. England drew his revolver and opened fire. Ferrell was shot three times, but managed to fire a final shot as he fell. Both men died.

It wasn't their first encounter. About a month earlier, Ferrell had organized a posse to chase England after reports that he was selling whiskey around Majestic. During that pursuit, Ferrell reportedly shot England's horse out from under him and then shot England himself, only for England to survive because he was wearing a bulletproof vest.
